The Weird (But Wonderful) Quartet biography

IMG_3357Carlyn Lloyd, flutist performs regularly with many ensembles including her duo with Jon Warfel, pianist, the “Weird (but Wonderful) Quartet,” and the flute/guitar duo, “Rabbit Ears.” She has written arrangements of popular and classical music for her woodwind quintet, Quintuplex, and has also written and performed several arrangements for solo flute and concert band. Her arrangement of Respighi’s, Ancient Airs and Dances received its premier at the National Flute Association Convention in Orlando, FL. A member of the International Opera Theatre orchestra, she premiered Iago by Carlo Pedini in Citta della Pieve, Italy. She has served on the flute faculties of the American Conservatory of Music, Waubonsee Community College, IMSA, the Hinsdale Center for the Arts and currently maintains a private teaching studio in Forest Park. Carlyn is listed in the International Who’s Who in Music, the Who’s Who in Entertainment, and the Who’s Who in American Music. Jason and Sherry DeRocheAs one of the most exciting guitarists of his generation, Jason Deroche fuses an Old World tradition with an understanding of the Pop culture that exists today.  Playing anything from Bach to Beatles, Deroche leaves his audiences delighted with his relaxed performance style and candid sense of humor.  The diversity of his abilities has led to collaborations with some of Chicago’s finest musicians.  Deroche is highly sought after as an instructor of the guitar.  Students of all ages and abilities enjoy his unique insight and relevant instruction that could only come from a life-long intimacy with the guitar.

IMG_3053 - Version 2David Katz is a highly sought after and active performer and teacher of violin and viola in the Chicagoland area. He currently performs as assistant concertmaster with the Lake Forest Symphony and the Chicago Opera Company. He also performs regularly with the Chicago Sinfonietta, Joffrey Ballet, Ravinia Festival Orchestra, ARS Viva! and Fulcrum Point. David has performed all over the world including performances with Orchestra Sinfonica de Galicia (La Coruna, Spain) Caracas (Venezuela) Philharmonic, the Princeton (N.J.) Chamber Orchestra (in Cairo, Egypt and Amman, Jordan) and many years with the Spoleto (Italy) Music Festival. He toured East Germany just before the “Wall” came down (1988) with the Chicago Chamber Orchestra, and joined the Chicago Sinfonietta in Germany, Switzerland, and the Canary Islands and Southern California. David studied with Jascha Brodsky (1st violinist with the Curtis String Quartet for over 50 years) at the New School of Music in Philadelphia. David has taught violin and viola for over 25 years and is certified in the Suzuki method.

IMG_2675 - Version 2Cellist, Jill Kaeding is known for her versatility in all mediums of music. She played for seventeen years with “Corky Siegel’s Chamber Blues”, touring throughout North America and Europe, including performances at the Montreal Jazz Festival. Jill is a member of the HAWK String Quartet, which has joined forces with Jim Gailloreto, saxophonist/composer to form Jazz String Quintet, an award winning blend of original “jazz chamber music”. As a free lancing musician she  has performed with a number of local orchestras, musical theater productions and with many national artists including:  Ray Charles, Lyle Lovett, Garth Brooks, Poi Dog Pondering, Kurt Elling, Faith Hill and on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
